Infinity History

Infinity  was founded by Arnie Nudell, John Ulrick and Cary Christie, in 1968.  Infinity has produced speakers with innovative materials such as neodymium magnets, mylar diaphragms, and polypropylene speaker cones. The company's first speaker was the Servo-Static speaker system which consisted of electrostatic main panels and a servo controlled woofer.

In the 1970s Infinity introduced the EMIT electromagnetic induction tweeter and EMIM electromagnetic induction drivers. Infinity also made the EMIT-R (radial emit), the S-EMIT (super emit) as well as the L-EMIM (large emim). The IRS (Infinity Reference System) considered the first ultra-high end system  cost US$65,000 in the 1980s and had 76 EMIT tweeters, 24 EMIM midrange drivers, and twelve 12-inch polypropylene woofers in four tower cabinets. The Reference, and later Kappa series, were discontinued when Nudell sold Infinity to Harman Kardon and left to form Genesis Technologies.

After the departure of Nudell, Infinity speaker became more mass market oriented. The SM (Studio Monitor) series used a polycell tweeter and graphite midrange/woofers. These Infinity efforts filled a popular consumer niche instead of their previous high-end elaborate designs.
