Midrange Speaker Repair & Refoam

Mid Refoam

A customer sent us this picture of the mid-range speaker they repaired with our speaker repair re-foam kits. Woofer surrounds tend to fall apart first due to the fact that woofers have more movement (excursion) but midrange speakers surrounds will also eventually deteriorate and need to be replaced. If the same type of surrounds where used on both the woofers and mids they will likely need to be replaced at about the same time. If different surround types where used such as foam on one driver and cloth or rubber on the other driver only the foam ones may need to be replaced. Rubber surrounds tend to outlast foam. Cloth surrounds will usually outlast both foam and rubber.  It's common to see older speakers with bad foam surrounds on the woofers and intact cloth surrounds on the mids.  When replacing speaker surrounds on one driver it's a good idea to inspect all the other drivers on the speakers to see if they may need to be replaced also. We have repair kits available for midrange speakers from 3 to 6 inches on our website.

A mid-range speaker is a loudspeaker driver that reproduces sound in the frequency range from 250 to 2000 Hz. Mid-range drivers are usually cone type which resemble a small woofer.
