Speaker Dust Caps
The dust cap of a speaker is a small, cone-shaped component that sits at the center of the speaker's diaphragm (cone). Its main function is to protect the inside of the speaker from dust and debris, but it also plays a role in the speaker's overall sound quality.
The dust cap is usually made of lightweight, rigid material such as paper, plastic, or metal. It is typically attached to the center of the diaphragm using a small amount of glue, and it is held in place by the tension of the diaphragm.
In some cases, the dust cap may become damaged or dislodged from the diaphragm. This can affect the speaker's performance and may require the dust cap to be replaced. Replacing the dust cap is a relatively simple repair that can be done with a few tools and some patience.
To replace a dust cap, you will need to remove the speaker from the enclosure (if applicable) and then carefully remove the old dust cap. Clean the area around the diaphragm to remove any glue residue, and then apply a small amount of glue to the center of the diaphragm. Carefully position the new dust cap in place, making sure it is centered and seated properly. Allow the glue to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions, and then reassemble the speaker.
