Inferior Boston Acoustic Speaker Repair Kit From Another Supplier

Speaker Re-foam Gone Bad!

We received this Boston Acoustic woofer in for repair. The customer had attempted to use a speaker repair kit from another supplier to replace the foam surround.

Notice that the adhesive supplied with the competitors kit melted the foam surround and also caused it to ripple badly. The adhesive from this supplier pretty much ruined the new surround that the customer was attempting to install. This competitors adhesive not only melts foam surrounds it also dries too fast, often before the surround can be probably centered on the speaker. Multiple customers have told us that using this other suppliers adhesive ruined their speakers.

For speakers with plastic speaker cones and or rubber surrounds our professional grade Nitrile rubber speaker repair adhesive works great, it adheres extremely well and also does not melt or ripple foam surrounds nearly as much as the glue pictured. Our Nitrile rubber adhesive also dries slower allowing more time to position the surround. Our Nitrile set up fast, but allows you to make adjustments needed before the glue is are fully cured. For foam surrounds and paper cones we recommend our professional grade white Latex speaker adhesive, it dries flexible, clear, and tack free. It bonds foam surrounds to paper cones and frames and can also be use for gaskets.

The other obvious issue with this speaker repair kit supplied by a competitor is that the surround does not fit the speaker basket. As can be seen in the picture above, the outside edge of the surround is too big to fit in the notched area on the speaker basket (frame). Occasionally surrounds will need to be trimmed to fit the frame and should have been in order to use the pictured surround with this speaker.

We sell the best quality surrounds with our kit and always try to supply surrounds that don't need to be trimmed if possible. For the Boston Acoustics speaker pictured we sell this the SWKBOS6A which will fit the speaker basket without trimming:

This speaker took a little more work,  but with the correct glue and foam surround we where able to repair it for this customer. If you have a speaker that looks like this please let us know and email us a picture before sending it in repair so we can confirm whether or not we will be able to repair it. If you want to repair any speakers yourself consider using one of our high quality speaker repair kits.
